AMEDEE SOUTH VACHERIE – Ives Francis Amedee, 46, a native and resident of Vacherie, died March 26. He was the husband of Terry Gravois Amedee and father of Candace, Casey and Cody Amedee. He was also the son of the late Ives Pierre and Marie Becnel Amedee and brother of Mary Folse, Hilda Folse, Rosie Delatte, Janice Borne and Charlene Goan, Gary, Lonnie, Wayne and the late Richard Amedee. He was a vice-president and lending officer of First American Bank and Trust, Vacherie, and member of Knights of Columbus Council 1514, Vacherie Lions Club and East St. James Riding Club. Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

CELESTIN ST. JAMES – Willie “Dollin” Celestin Jr., 77, a native and resident of St. James, died March 22. He was the husband of Edna Saul Celestin and father of Shavvone Schonberg, Teresa Harris, Miguelle Meno, Colleen Joseph, Gretchen Williams, Faith Lathers and Brettaiene, Walter, Andrew and Michael Celestin. He was also the son of the late Willie Sr. and Elenora Celestin and brother of Ethel Knight and Horace and the late Louis and Lionel Celestin Sr. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild. Services were March 27 at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with interment at the church cemetery.CUREAUX LAPLACE – The Rev. Junius L. Cureaux, 85, a native and resident of Lions, died March 22. He was the son of the late George and Odile Watkins Cureaux and adopted father of Eugene Cureaux. He is also survived by two grandchildren. Wake services are today at 8 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, LaPlace, funeral services are March 29 at 11 a.m. and interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and 4-5 p.m. at Hobson-Brown Funeral Home.DAVIS WINNFIELD – Justen Michael Davis, 12, son of Jacqueline Hall White of Reserve and Kenneth Leon Davis of West Palm Beach, Fla., died March 17. He was a native of New Orleans and resident of Reserve. He was also the stepson of Andrea Davis and the late Rodney Alan White Sr., brother of Jacinda Davis, Jassmen Hall and Jeremiah Davis and stepbrother of Rodney White. He accepted Jehovah at an early age and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses in Winnfield, LaPlace and Pine Bluff, Ark. He received his early education in the Winn Parish, Caddo Parish, Pine Bluff and St. John the Baptist Parish schools and was a seventh-grader at Leon Godchaux Junior High School. Justen was an honor student involved in many extracurricular activities. He was a red-ribbon winner at the 4-H Food Focus contest and was recently chosen to represent his school at the 4-H Camp. He placed at his schools science fair and went on to compete at the parish level. In addition, he received first place honors at his schools social studies fair. Justen advanced to compete at the regionals at Nicholls State University. He was an active member of the chess, computer, French and Spanish clubs. He was a former karate student and excelled in his role as teammate of the NOAH Gators and the Leon Godchaux football team. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Emma J. Hall and Velma Davis; great-grandmothers, Emma Davis and Lorene Bryant; five uncles, Gary, Tony, Ronald and Ezell Hall and Vincent McGuire; nine aunts, Sandra Johnson, Beverly Mackey, Regina Calloway, Javis Atkins, Ethell Smith, Sonya Morrison, Tanyga Hall, Felecia Davis and Nechalie Calloway. Services were March 24 in the chapel of Winnfield Funeral Home, Winnfield, with interment at Winnfield Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the Taft Carbide Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 560, Hahnville, LA 70057.MATHERNE PARADIS – Henrietta “Deanie” Matherne, 57, a native and resident of Bayou Gauche, died March 23. She was the mother of Cary and Christine Hogan. She was also the daughter of the late Arthur Sr. and Elnora M. Matherne and sister of Lula Mae Riviere, Juanita Galloway, Tillie Clark and Freddie, Louis and Arthur Matherne Jr. She is also survived by three grandchildren. Services were March 27 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Paradis.SERUNTINE LAPLACE – Janet Dale Seruntine, 56, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace for 25 years, died March 23. She was the former wife of Henry Seruntine and mother of Sally Cocoa and Sherry, Dean, Glenn and Hank Seruntine. She was also the daughter of the late Jess and Ethel Mae Carson Dale and sister of Susan Dale. She is also survived by nine grandchildren. Services were March 26 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.WASHINGTON GARYVILLE – Versa Ann S. Washington, 53, a native of Garyville and resident of Los Angeles, died March 22. She was the wife of Dennis Washington and mother of Trinell Smith. She was also the daughter of the late Andrew and Lillie Mae Sterling and sister of Pier Davis, Ilana Burton and Andrew Jr., Sandra, Rockey, Demarris, Paula, Pernell, Stacy and Ronald Sterling. Services are today at 11 a.m. at Greater New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Garyville, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.
