HAROLD KELLER
Bible can heal any disrupted heart It’s been more than 50 years, but I still remember Miss Josie Cambre’s (Mrs. Jack Snowdy’s) ninth-grade English class at Leon Godchaux High School. I was pretty mischievous, or disruptive, in class, but Allen “Billy” Loupe, in my opinion, was worse than I was. My opinion is based on the fact Billy got kicked out of that class more than I did. He eventually left school. I lost track of Billy for more than 25 years, but in the late 70s we renewed our relationship. I found out he had spent four years in the Navy (1951-1955) and after his discharge worked offshore. The Billy I knew in high school was not the same Billy I met up with in the late 70s. He was different. He was excited about his life and enjoyed his work, and the love for his family was evident. He shared that he attended church regularly and was excited about his faith. It was quite a while later my curiosity got the better of me, and I asked Billy what happened to him. “I got saved! Jesus is the Lord of my life!” he said with a big smile that clearly showed his experience was real. “How did you get saved?” I asked. “Harold, you won’t believe this, but when I was in the Navy, stationed on a ship, one night a shipmate came in the sleeping compartment drunk, cursing and making a lot of noise. He had a Bible on his rack (bed), picked it up and threw it in the garbage can. I had never read the Bible, but I knew it had no place in a garbage can. The next morning I picked it out of the garbage and started to read it. I continued to read it, and God’s Word gave me a desire to know Him better. That’s how I got saved.” If Billy’s story sounds hard to believe, I can understand. But I am reminded of what the Bible says in Hebrews 4:12, “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword…” The Bible also says that God’s Word will not return to Him void but will accomplish what He pleases and prosper in the thing for which He sent it. Billy’s conversion is a living testimony to the power of God’s Word. HAROLD KELLER is affiliated with the Get High on Life religious motivational group. He can be reached at P.O.
