Cats release 2001 slate

RESERVE – East St. John has released its schedule for the 2001 football season. The Wildcats are coming off a 10-2 season and a second place finish in District 7-5A. East St. John defeat John Kennedy in the bid-istrict playoffs before losing to state runner-up Shaw in the regionals. East St. John opens the season Aug. 31 at home against traditional rival Lutcher, which has defeated the Wildcats in each of the last two seasons. The Wildcats then travel to St. James, a team they defeated 20-0 in 2000, Sept. 7. East St. John closes out the pre-district schedule against Capitol at Joe Keller Stadium. East St. John opens the District 7-5A session against the only team to defeat the Wildcats in district play in 2000, defending district champion Hahnville, at home. East St. John then travels to Galliano to play South Lafourche. A second straight road trip follows to H.L. Bourgeois, which is back in District 7-5A after two years in Class 4A. East St. John then hosts Thibodaux for Homecoming Oct. 12. A trip to rival Destrehan follows the next week. East St. John returns home to play Central Lafourche for Senior Night Oct. 26 before closing out the season at Terrebonne, another team moving up after spending the last two seasons in Class 4A.
