LAPLACE – Eleven male students were arrested Wednesday afternoon after a large fight broke out on the Glade Junior High School playground at lunchtime. According to Ann LaBorde of the St. John School System, several eighth-grade students joined in the fighting after two students started the confrontation. The incident happened around noon just after eighth-graders finished LEAP testing. Administration was notified of the fight, and the St. John Sheriff’s Office was called. LaBorde said there is a good chance the students will be expelled from Glade. If that does happen, they will have alternatives like attending the St. John Redirection Center, where students are supervised at all times. “The Sheriff’s Office responded nicely,” said LaBorde, who added that the juveniles were handcuffed and hauled away in a van for disturbing the peace and inciting a riot. The fight lasted under five minutes “They are in jail, and the parents will have to go get them out,” said LaBorde. “They were all signed over to their parents, except one 17-year-old,” said Capt. Mike Tregre of St. John Sheriff’s Office. The adult student, Harold Fleming, 1441 Yorktowne Drive, LaPlace, is being held on $2,000 bond set by Judge Madeline Jasmine. Fleming was booked with disturbing the peace and inciting a riot. The younger students did not have bond set. They were allowed to leave with their parents shortly after being brought in. According to Tregre, parents will be notified of court dates for their children.
