This means 50 full-time contractor positions at the Uncle Sam plant will beeliminated immediately and additional staffing reductions are beingconsidered.
Louisiana production will be exclusively targeted to the domestic market andall export demand will be served only from Florida.
“By supplying customers on a lowest delivered-cost basis and improvingservice levels, both IMC and our customers will benefit,” said StevenDemetriou, senior vice president of IMC Global and president of IMCPhosphates.
Under the plan, current production levels of phosphoric acid at the Uncle Samfacility will be reduced by approximately 30 percent.
IMC’s phosphoric acid plant at Faustina and it’s granulation facility in Taft willremain idle.
As a result of the additional production cutback, more than two million tonsof IMC’s total annualized DAP/MAP capacity will be shut down.
The reduced production comes just two months after IMC restarted its UncleSam plant. The plant was running at 75 percent capacity, said Rodie Martin,IMC Agrico information officer. Though 50 contract workers were released, no regular IMC Agrico workswere laid off, added Martin.
