ESJ hosts Trojans after pulling upset

RESERVE – Coming off one of its biggest upsets in years, East St. Johnreenters the rigors of District 7-5A play this week at Central Lafourche.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.East St. John upset 11th-ranked Neville, 24-21, on the road Friday night. TheWildcats took a 17-6 lead before Neville rallied to go ahead, 21-17. ButDarwin Pittman hit Raydel Patterson for their second touchdown connection of the night from six yards out for the win.

East St. John improved to 6-1 with the win.Now the Wildcats, 2-1, look to get right back in the hunt for the district title against Central Lafourche.

The Trojans enter the game coming off a 37-10 victory at Thibodaux. Thewin improved the Trojans to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in district.

The game was almost identical statistically with Central Lafourche gaining 276 yards in offense and Thibodaux 241. But the Trojans did not commit aturnover while the Tigers turned the ball over three times. Keylan Davisreturned an interception 50 yards for a score. Kyle Champagne also returneda kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown.

Dorion Scott led the offense with 94 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown run. The Trojans finished with 188 yards rushing. T.J. Vedros completed 8-of-14 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.

T.J. Vedros is in his first season at quarterback after moving over from widereceiver. In the backfield with him are Scott and Al Brown at tailback andScott Belanger and Shane Eschete at fullback. Jonathan Boudreaux and AndyGriffin are the wideouts while Brian Vedros is the tight end. Jeff Bacon,Lamar Waguespack, Beau Matherne, Jacob Roby and Lee Foret lead the push on the line.

The defense will be a 5-3. The line is Foret, Terrance Ford, Jacob Chase,Ernie Orgeron, Dayshawn Green and David Skeans. Porche, Bellanger andEschete are the linebackers. In the defensive backfield are Russell Adams,Scott and Brown.

Last year, East St. John rolled up over 480 yards in offense in a 41-21victory. Floyd Smith passed for 287 yards and three touchdowns. ChuckieBurl had 108 yards rushing.
