DHS continues to roll on as district starts Lutcher, St. James fall to Walker, Assumption non-district play

THIBODAUX – The Destrehan Wildcats showed that they were stronger than the Thibodaux Tigers Friday night when they de-fanged the big cats, 27-3.
Destrehan improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in District 7-5A. Thibodaux fell to0-4 overall and 0-1 in district.
Behind the powerful arm of quarterback Randy Roth, the Wildcats racked up an impressive 258 total yards against 187 yards for the Tigers.
Roth passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns, while Fred Smith took the receiving honors by catching two catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns.
DeChad Ward of Destrehan was also a big rusher with 60 yards and one touchdown in the third quarter.
The final Destrehan score came in the fourth quarter when there was a fumble return for 35-yard and a touchdown.
Thibodaux scored on a fourth quarter field goal, a 37-yarder kicked by Jeremy Navarre.
The Wildcats are undefeated at 4-0 and next week they will host the East St.
John Wildcats in District 7-5A play.
Assumption 28, St. James 7
ST. JAMES – The St. James Wildcats didn’t have a chance against the rushingattack of the Assumption Mustangs Friday night. The powerful running ofrunning back Branden Jacobs, the state’s leading rusher shut down the Wildcats as they went down to a 28-7 defeat by the Mustangs.
Even though St. James High out-passed the Mustangs 53 yards to 0, theWildcat defense could not stop the juggernaut known as Jacobs.
The running back ran for 199 yards and scored all four of the Mustangs’ touchdowns. Jacobs was also responsible for all of Assumption’s yardage. St.James had a total rushing yardage of 153 yards.
The Wildcats’ only touchdown came in the first quarter with a three yard run by Travell Steib.
Jacobs ran in touchdowns in every quarter, running in twice for three yards each, a one-yard TD and finally a 42-yard score in the fourth quarter.
The 2-2 Wildcats host Booker T. Washington Friday.
Walker 27, Lutcher 7
LUTCHER – Walker scored 20 unanswered second-half points to get by Lutcher, 27-7, in non-district action Friday night.
Walker improved to 4-0 on the season while the Bulldogs fell to 2-2.
Walker got on the scoreboard in the first quarter on a 4-yard fumble return by Kent Reeves with 10:33 left.
Lutcher tied the game before the half as Chris Johnson took in a 43-yard touchdown pass from Risley St. Germain with 3:05 left in the secondquarter. T.J. Bourgeois added the extra point, tying the game at 7.Walker went ahead for good as Tyson Roy scored on a 14-yard run with 7:36 left in the third quarter.
Lucien Weber added a 22-yard touchdown reception from Michael Dumiller to make it 21-7 with 53.4 seconds left in the third quarter.Roy concluded the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 11-yard run with 10:30 left.
Lutcher travels to Assumption next week.
