13 qualify in three parish races

LAPLACE – Qualifying for the three political races in St. John the BaptistParish is over, and 13 candidates are vying for the offices of school board member District 8, justice of the peace District 2 and constable District 2.
Running for the District 8 seat on the St. John Parish School Board areCharles M. Duhon, Michael “Coach” Maggiore, Randle Triche and Russ Wise.All four are running for the seat held by Richard DeLong, who retired in July for health reasons. The winner of this race will serve the final two years ofDeLong’s his term.
Wise is a former school board member. Maggiore served on the St. JohnParish Council and has been a teacher for the past 17 years. Triche ranagainst DeLong in 1998 and is a native of LaPlace.
In the Justice of the Peace District 2 race, there are four candidates.
Dean DeFrancesch is the son of the former Justice of the Peace Eliana DeFrancesch, who is now the Clerk of Court for St. John Parish. Also runningis William H. “Bill” Favor, Cathy L. Wade and Donald Williams.The race for Constable District 2 is the most crowded contest with five candidates. Albert A. Burl III and Norman Volion are old hands at politics,having run for parish council seats in District 2 last October. Also runningfor constable are Brent “Beno” Duhon Sr., Walter “Gus” Madere and TomWeber. All five candidates are residents of Garyville.Elections will be held on Oct. 7.
