ALEMAN NEW ORLEANS – Msgr. Vernon Peter Aleman, 92, a native of Welcome andresident of New Orleans for 75 years, died July 8. He was the brother ofthe late Essie Kethley and uncle of Richard Kethley.
Services were July 13 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, New Orleans, with interment at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
CASENTE METAIRIE – Josephine R.Z. Casente, 92, a native of Norco and resident ofMetairie for 25 years, died July 12. She was the wife of the late AnthonyCasente and mother of Rosemarie Habighorst and the late Dr. SalvadorCasente.
She was also the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Virginia Bareca Zummo and sister of Salvador Zummo and the late Frances Noto, Anna Ferro, Sadia Randazzo, Antoinette “Lena” Callico and Carlo, Frank and Joseph Zummo.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lamana-Panno-Fallo FuneralHome, Metairie, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation startsat 9 a.m.
CRIDDLE NEW ORLEANS – Ernest Vernel Criddle, 57, a native of Lutcher and resident of New Orleans for 50 years, died July 6. He was the former husband ofDorothy Gordon Criddle, father of Sabrina Norcroff, Ethan Sr. and ZaronCriddle and stepfather of Warren and Brenda Ernest.
He was also the son of the late Nehamiah and Rebecca Fluence Criddle and brother of Vera Clarke, Janice Carter and Fannie, Raymond, Ronald, Nehemiah, Ambrose, Earl Jr. and the late Carl and Richard Criddle.He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Services were July 14 at St. James Methodist Church, New Orleans, withinterment at Providence Memorial Park Cemetery.
DUHE LAPLACE – Leroy J. Duhe, 69, a native of Reserve and resident of LaPlacefor 31 years, died July 11. He was the husband of Enid Jones Duhe andfather of Janet Ockman, Coye Howell and Leroy Jr., Michael and DanielDuhe.
He was also the son of the late Paul and Louise Duhe and brother of Eunice Tassin, Rosa Galatas, Cecile Cooper, Early Duhe and the late Murphy, Lester and Harris Duhe.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, where he served inthe Korean and Vietnam wars and retired from Dupont Chemical after 15 years.
Services were July 14 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.
HARRISON JACKSON – Arthur “Keller” Harrison, 58, a native of Jackson and resident of LaPlace, died July 10. He was the former husband of Gladys H. Banks andfather of Antoinette Caston, Sandra Plain, Shardone’ , Alexsis and Tatiana Labranche, Demona Harrison-Alexander and Nashonda and Tyshiaka Harrison.
He was the son of Irma Stewart and the late Willie Harrison, stepson of Walker Stewart and brother of Rebecca Cobb, Ora Veal, Florence and Hazel Stewart and the late Albert Harrison and Michael Stewart Sr.
He is also survived by two grandchildren.
Services are today at noon at F.T. Baptist Church, with interment at thechurch cemetery. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
HONORE VACHERIE – Mercedes Honore, 80, a native of Vacherie and resident of Marrero, died July 9. She was the wife of the late Luke Brown Sr. andmother of Barbara Mitchell, Luke Brown Jr. and Edward Harang Jr.She was also the daughter of the late Jena Honore and Lorenza Champagne and the sister of Daisy Thompson, Bernadette Williams and the late Winnie Leonard, Mildred Florence and Mabel, Robert, Willie, Michael and Cornell Honore.
She is surived by two grandchildren.
Services were July 13 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Marrero,with interment at St. Phillip Catholic Church Cemetery, Vacherie.
HOOGVLIETS RIVER RIDGE – Sabrina Maria Hoogvliets, 32, a native of U.S. Virgin Islandsand resident of St. Rose for 22 years, died July 7. She was the mother ofRachael and Daniel Hoogvliets.
She was also the daughter of Milton and Claudine Smith Hoogvliets and sister of Roxanne Craig, Maureena Nunez and Derwin and Andrew Hoogvliets. She was also the granddaughter of Daniel Smith.Services were July 13 in the chapel of Richardson Funeral Home, River Ridge, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
HOUSTON LAPLACE – Mayola Houston, 70, a native of Violet and resident of LaPlace, died July 9. She was the mother of Barbara Brown, Brenetta Scott, BobbieCarto, Marilyn Kelson, Bernard Sylvester and Beverly, Fairetta, Loretta and David King.
She was also the daughter of the late Davis and Carmella King and sister of Davis King Sr., John and Juna McCoy, Thelma Wagner and MargaretHarvey.
She is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services were July 14 at Rising Star Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment at Montz Memorial Cemetery.
JOHNSON ST. ROSE – Jemyra Shantelle’ Johnson, 22, a native and resident of St.Rose, died July 11. She was the daughter of Tracey Joseph and Kenneth andLisa Johnson and sister of Tamara, Akendra, Christopher and Nicholas Johnson.
She was also the granddaughter of Chaney Johnson.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, St. Rose, withinterment at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.
LIONS LAPLACE – Louis E. Lions Jr., 74, a native of Destrehan and resident ofLaPlace, died July 11. He was the husband of the late Louise A. Lions andfather of Guy Lions and the late David and Robert Lions.
He was also the son of the late Louis and Lucille Lions and brother of Phyllis McCurley, Catherine Marino and the late Jude Lions.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were July 14 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens.
MASON BATCHELOR – Clarence T. Mason, 93, a native of Reserve and resident ofBatchelor, died July 12. He was the husband by first marriage of the lateEdith Hall and by second marriage of Helen Kimble Mason and father of Hilda Neville, Beverly Stokes-Klarich, Clarence Jr. and Warren Mason andthe late Kara Mason and Connie Gerrier.
He was the son of the late David and Natalie Mason.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and also worked at J.J. Case Co., where he worked as a welder and part-time chef.He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services are July 18 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, with interment at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
MURRAY RESERVE – Chad Joseph “Luther” Murray, 25, a native of Reserve, died July 7. He was the father of Cortez, Chad, Ron’t and Chris Murray.He was also the son of Paula Dean and Emmitte Murray Jr. and brother ofEmmitte Murray III.
He was also the grandson of Gloria and the late Aubrey Branch Sr. andBeatrice and the late Emmitte Murray Sr.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Riverlands Christian Center, Reserve,with interment at Providence Rest Haven Cemetery, LaPlace. Visitationstarts at 10 a.m.
TYLER LUTCHER -Alvin “Witch” “Graveyard” Tyler, 64, a native and resident of Lutcher, died July 11. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Warren Tylerand father of Madrina Jones, Gloria Knight, Nancy Duhon and Osborne and Thaddeus Tyler.
He was also the son of the late Jack and Albertha Williams Tyler and brother of Mattie Thomas.
He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Israelite Baptist Church, Lutcher, withinterment at Golden Wreath Cemetery. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m.
