Extra Inning Club blanks Gulf Coast

RESERVE – The Riverside Extra Inning Club scored eight runs in the third inning and Brandon Delaneuville pitched a two-hitter in a 12-0 victory over Gulf Coast Bank Monday evening at Fernandez Field.
The Extra Inning Club wrapped up a spot in the Second District playoffs with an 8-6 record overall and in district play. Riverside will play Ehret-based Rainbow Olds in a three-game series beginning today.
Chalmette-based Gulf Coast Bank fell to 2-11 overall and in district.
Gulf Coast Bank threatened in the first inning as Jeff Quates was hit by a pitch and Jeff Acosta walked with one out. But Delaneuville came back toget Bo Serigne to hit into a double play to third to end the inning.
Bradley Hodges led off the bottom of the inning with a walk against Gulf Coast Bank starter John Vitrano and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
After Britt Waguespack followed with another walk, Quates came in to pitch. One out later, Delaneuville walked to load the bases.Joel Levin popped up to second with Acosta dropping the ball. Acostathrew to second for the force but Hodges came in to score to make it 1-0.
D.J. Fortenberry followed with a single to left, scoring Waguespack for a2-0 lead.
Blake Duhe opened the second inning for the Extra Inning Club with a double off the top of the left field fence. Courtesy runner Jonathan Oubrethen went to third on a wild pitch and scored as Hodges beat out a single to short.
Waguespack was hit by a pitch and Sean Delaneuville single to left to load the bases with one out. But Quates then struck out Brandon Delaneuvilleand got Levin to fly out to left to get out of the inning.
The Extra Inning Club broke the game open in the third. A walk byFortenberry and a double to left by Damian Melancon put runners at second and third with none out. After Fortenberry scored on a wild pitch, Duhewalked and Poirrier reached on an error at short to drive in Melancon for a 5-0 lead.
An RBI single by Hodges to center chased Quates with Serigne coming into pitch. Waguespack brought in Poirrier with a single to right and an outlater, Hodges came across on Brandon Delaneuville’s double to center, making it 8-0. Levin then launched a three-run home run over the rightfield fence, giving the Extra Inning Club an 11-0 lead.
Quates led off the top of the fourth with a double to right, breaking a string of seven straight batters retired by Delaneuville. Delaneuville gotout of the inning without a run scoring by getting the next three batters to fly out to the outfield. He would allow only one other hit, a single by MikeSciortino to lead off the fifth, while walking one and striking out three in improving to 5-1 on the season.
The Extra Inning Club added a run in the fourth on a single by Waguespack and a double by Brandon Delaneuville.
Waguespack went 3-for-3 in the game with three runs scored. Hodges was2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Brandon Delaneuville had twodoubles and two RBIs.
“We struggled in the first couple of innings with leaving guys on base, but once we got past that, we did all right,” Extra Inning Club coach Davey Clement said.
