LULING – The annual tax levy for the St. Charles School Board met withboard approval last week.

A total of 55.09 mills will be billed to property owners, including 4.07mills School Constitutional Tax, 39.30 mills School Operations and Maintenance Tax, 4.98 mills School Construction and Improvement and6.86 mills to pay principal and interest on school bonds.Revenues generated from this millage will produce $26,150,000 for the general fund, $2.9 million for capital improvement fund and $4 million fordebt service.

The board also recognized 54 retirees from various departments of the St.

Charles schools district, each receiving the traditional “golden apple” gift and a certificate of recognition.

In another matter, bids were accepted for contracted custodial services, but action was postponed while the submitted bids were referred to the capital improvements committee for review.

Also, the mandated revisions to the 2000-2001 Pupil Progression Plan were approved for first reading, and copies have been made available to the public for comment.

In addition, Public Information Officer Rochelle Touchard was singled out for praise for two national awards made recently.

The National School Public Relations Association awarded St. CharlesParish Schools two honorable mention awards for outstanding publication with the annual report and for printed marketing material for the “Learning for Life” program.

Finally, Supt. Dr. Rodney Lafon reminded that LEAP summer schoolstudents will be off from classes on July 3-4 for the holiday but back in classes on July 5, with LEAP retests on July 6 and 10-11, starting at 8:30 a.m.
