Cretin Homes keeps up hot hitting

RESERVE – For the second straight game, Cretin Homes jumped ahead early and let its pitching take over in a 7-4 victory over the Riverside Extra Inning Club Wednesday afternoon at Fernandez Field.

Cretin Homes improved to 4-5 overall and in Second District play.

Riverside Extra Inning Club fell to 4-5 both overall and in district.

Cretin Homes collected 13 hits a day after getting 12 hits in a 9-6 victory at Otto Candies. Andrew Revall led the way with three hits, including twodoubles, in four trips to the plate. Jason Rauch went 2-for-4 while JeremyTriche and Chris Cancienne each went 2-for-3. Britt Waguespack led theExtra Inning Club with three hits, including a solo home run. BrandonDelaneuville added two doubles in three plate appearances.

Jason Waguespack (1-0) got the win for Cretin Homes, giving four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven in five-plus innings.

Jason LaPorte came in in the sixth to pick up his second straight save.

“I’m really happy with Jason (Waguespack),” Cretin Homes coach Paul Waguespack said. “He threw 5 1/3 innings and he threw the ball well.Cancienne came back from an injury and stepped up. Revall hit the ballwell. He was really peppering the ball. LaPorte got his second save in arow. We’re ecstatic.”Joel Levin got the loss for the Extra Inning Club, allowing seven runs, six earned in 3 1/3 innings. Damian Melancon pitched the final 3 2/3 innings,allowing five hits and two walks while striking out one.

“It was Damian’s first outing of the year,” Extra Inning Club coach Davey Clement said. “He caught my eye and we can gofrom there. He can help us out next season.”We’re just having a rough time right now. I’m noticing a lot of things. I’mfinding things out right now, both good things and bad things.”The Extra Inning Club got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Bradley Hodges and Waguespack led off with infield singles andadvanced on a balk by Jason Waguespack.

A walk by Sean Delaneuville loaded the bases. One out later, Hodges scoredon a suicide squeeze by Levin, giving the Extra Inning Club a 1-0 lead.

Cretin Homes came back in the top of the second. Revall led off with adouble to right field, went to third on a ground out by Randy Madere and scored on an infield single to short by Rauch. After Triche singled up themiddle, Rauch stole third and scored as Blake Duhe’s throw went into left field, giving Cretin Homes a 2-1 lead.

After a failed squeeze play trapped the runner off third, Cancienne singled to left, stole second and scored on Matt Boucvalt’s single to right for a 3- 1 lead.

Revall again started a rally in the top of the third with a one-out double to center. Madere brought him in with a single to left. After Madere advanced to third on a wild pitch, Rauch grounded back to Levin. Levin threw to first for the out with Madere beating the throwhome, making it 5-1.

Cancienne led off the fourth with a walk, stole second and scored on Mike Mustian’s double to center.

Melancon came in to pitch and one out later, walked Waguespack and gave up a run-scoring single to right by Revall to make it 7-1.

The Extra Inning Club began to chip into the lead in the bottom half of the inning as Brandon Delaneuville led off with a double into the left field corner and Levin walked. Delaneuville then advanced on Melancon’s fly ballto center and scored on a grounder to first by D.J. Fortenberry.Waguespack’s home run down the left field line with two outs in the fifth brought the Extra Inning Club to within 7-3. Brandon Delaneuville openedthe sixth with a double to left. Levin walked and Melancon drove a singleoff the mound to load the bases.

LaPorte came in and got Fortenberry to ground into a double play to Waguespack at short as Delaneuville scored to make it 7-4. LaPorte thenstruck out Duhe to end the inning.
