Witmer leads scholar team

BATON ROUGE – Hahnville first baseman Jacklyn Witmer leads the list of River Parishes athletes selected to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s sixth annual Academic All-State Softball team announced recently.
Witmer, who compiled a 4.0 grade point average at Hahnville, was one of36 senior softball players selected to the Composite team. There were atotal of 316 players named to the All-Academic team.
The members of the Academic All-State Composite team will be honored during the playing of the All-Star Softball doubleheader today at LSU.
Witmer was also selected to the Academic All-State team in Class 5A.
Making the honorable mention team in Class 5A were East St. John’s HeidiSchum and Theresa Cambre and Destrehan’s Anna Glore, Jennifer Eskine and Katie Kolwe.
Schum, a first baseman, had a 3.3261 GPA. Glore, a second baseman, had aGPA of 3.0350. At third base, Cambre had a GPA of 3.0666 and Eskine a3.0000 GPA. Kolwe, an outfielder, had a 3.0890 GPA.Kristen Clement and Cristin Clement of St. Charles Catholic made theClass 3A All-State team. Clement, a third baseman, had a GPA of 3.6428.Clement, an outfielder, had a 3.9642 GPA.Named to the Class 3A honorable mention team were the Lady Comets’ Marci Martin and Lacey Trepagnier and Lutcher’s Breeze Vicknair and Toni Riley. Martin made it as both an outfielder and a pitcher with a 3.5517GPA. Trepagnier, an outfielder, had a 3.1428 GPA. Vicknair, an outfielder,achieved a 3.8125 GPA. Riley, also an outfielder, had a 3.7600 GPA.In Class 2A, three members of the Riverside Lady Rebels were named to the honorable mention team. Brandi Falgoust, a first baseman, had a3.7412 GPA. Amie Graugnard, a third baseman, had a 3.6114 GPA. AndJennifer Guidry, an outfielder, achieved a GPA of 3.5201. In order to be selected to the Academic All-State team, the student had to be nominated by both her high school principal and softball coach and had to have achieved a seven-semester cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 orbetter based on a 4.0 scale. In each class and on the Composite team, twoindividuals were selected for each of the nine positions on the team (six outfielders). In the case of ties, all the students involved in the tie indetermining the GPA were selected to the team.
