WSJ grads get awards, scholarship offers

EDGARD – Numerous West St. John High School graduates received awardsand scholarship offers.

Two students received the TOPS Performance Award of $800 tuition a year.

They were Ashley Pierre and Karanell Tassin.

Ten other graduates received TOPS scholarships. They are Ariel Antonio,Matthew Dumas, Keionni Favorite, Carl Gauthier, Brian Lumar, Tara Mitchell, Tremaine Nathan, Lakeya Phillips, Ashley Pierre and Leman Raphael.

The Scholar Athlete Awards were presented to Ireon Bethancourt and Carl Gauthier.

The Award of Educational Achievement was presented to Lakey Phillips, Lindsay August, Tamara Lumar, Tara Mitchell and Karanell Tassin.

Winner of the Wantu Wazuri Civic and Social Club Scholarships in the amount of $500 were Ariel Antonio, Tamara Lumar, Tara Mitchell, Derrick Morrix and Ashley Pierre.

Kreshanna Lumar and Derrick Morris were receipients of the Judge Madeline Jasmine Award.

Other awards and scholarship offers were presented to: Carl Gauthier – Patrick F. Taylor Foundation Athletic Scholarship, $4,000 Gary Watson – Xavier University, $20,000; Agrico Scholarship for $2,500; Emile August Scholarship Award, $1,000; the Dr. Reginald Ross ScholarshipAward, $1,000, and the American Legion Award Ashley Pierre – Tuskegee University, $29,000; Dillard University Presidential Scholarship, $29,936; Prairie View A&M University Pre-Medical Summer Institute, $2,000, the Distinguish Achievment Scholarship, $20,000, and waiver of out-of-state fees. She also won the American Legion Award. Ariel Antonio – Xavier University, $16,000 Tamara Lumar – Xavier University, $16,000 Keionni Favorite – Xavier University, $16,000 Tremaine Nathan – Grambling State University, $18,000, Triparish Elk Scholarship, $500, and Leroy Dallas Williams Scholarship, $2,000. Also thewinner of the Knights of Columbus Patriotic Award Lakeyta Samuel – Institutional grant to Dillard University for four years, $8,900 Karanell Tassin – Xavier University, $12,000 Lakeya Phillips – A+ Leadership Scholarship to Nicholls State University, $500 a year Lakeshia Thomas – Grambling State University, $6,000, and Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Marlon Jackson – Athletic Scholarship to Grambling State University, $45,000 Brian Lumar – Athletic Scholarship to Georgia Tech, $45,000 Donriel Louis – Athletic Scholarship to LSU, $45,000.

Matthew Dumas – Sam Walton Community Scholarship, $1,000, Dupont Scholarship, $1,000, and River Parish Vocational Scholarship, $500.

Tara Mitchell – Senior Knights of Peter Claver Assembly No. 23,Napoleonville, $250, and University of New Orleans Book Scholarship, $2,000 Kimberly Short – Institution Scholarship to Dillard University, $16,000 Ashley Pierre – Ebony Gents Scholarship, $500, and the Step-Up Award Derrick Morris – Step-Up Award
