Ivanov’s Gymnastics takes awards at regional meet

LAPLACE – Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy in LaPlace completed a successful year of competition at the regional meet in Anderson, South Carolina last month.

Katelyn Rodrigue of Destrehan placed fourth on the bars in the Level 8 competition with a score of 9.375. Rodrigue went on to place 10th in the all-around with a score of 35.875.Yvette Triay of Metairie placed eighth in the floor exercises with a 9.4.Ivanov’s, competing with other schools in the state as Team Louisiana, placed second in the eight-team regional.

“It was good,” Larisa Ivanova of the academy said. “The best girls from eachstate came to compete.”The academy also competed at the state meet in Monroe. Sarah Thomas ofNew Orleans took first place all-around and received a senior award for her 12 years in gymnastics. Rodrigue placed eighth in the all-around while Triaywas third. And Olga Ivanova won the state championship in the vault.In Level 6, Brandi Doskey took third place on the beam and placed fourth in the all-around. Danielle Kay took third place in the floor exercises and wassixth in the all-around.

Katie Trigre and Stephanie Alves took second place in the all-around in Level 5 while Olivia Carisella was third.

Coti Roussel of Reserve won the state championship in Level 2.

The academy also recently did gymnastics classes at Riverside and performed two exhibitions at New Sarpy Elementary. It also did shows at St.Martin’s in Metairie. It will also hold a summer camp June 5 through August18. There will be a registration open house May 5 from 4-9 p.m. and May 6from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.In addition, Thomas and Ivanova will be competing for Newman and St.

Martin’s, respectively, at the LHSAA state gymnastics meet this weekend at Baton Rouge High School.
