HAHNVILLE – If you’re the victim of a crime in St. Charles Parish, this newlittle booklet could be the most valuable possession you have.

It’s “What to Expect after Your Life has been Impacted by Crime,” and includes a wealth of information, including contact numbers, details on assistance to victims and witnesses, an explanation of how the local court system works, what to do immediately after a crime and helpful suggestions to avoid being raped or assaulted.

Information on financial relief, tips for witnesses in testifying in court and information on domestic violence is also included.

Sheriff Greg C. Champagne commented, “Greater attention is being given tohelp victims understand the sometimes-complex and often slow judicial process.”The former assistant district attorney said copies of the booklet are being provided to all parish residents.

“It’s important to remember that every time we reach out to a victim, and every time we offer help to someone who has been hurt by crime, we’re doing our community justice,” Champagne added.

The list of emergency numbers alone is valuable, including phone numbers for every division of the sheriff’s office (juvenile, patrol, bonds and fines, civil, records, special investigations, corrections, criminal investigations, special services and training).

The booklet was produced by the Special Services Division, headed by Capt.

Patrick Yoes.
