Williams family again offering scholarship

LAPLACE – For the third year in a row, former principal of East St. John HighSchool and president of the Library Control Board, Leroy Williams, is offering a $2,000 college scholarship to a qualified high school student in St. John orSt. James parish.The Leroy Dallas Williams Educational Scholarship was established in January 1998 by Williams, his wife, Regina Hebert Williams, and their son, Jerrold Radcliffe Williams. All three are alumni of Southern University in BatonRouge.
The scholarship is for those high school students who wish to major in business education or computer sciences. The recipient must also attendSouthern University A & M College in Baton Rouge.
The recipient of the scholarship will receive $1,000 at the beginning of his/her freshman year and the remaining $1,000 at the beginning of the sophomore year, providing the student has maintained a 2.5 grade-pointaverage in college.
The qualified recipient of the scholarship has to meet the following requirements: Be a graduating senior of an accredited high school of St. John or St.James parish.
Must have a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 or better with an ACTscore of 18 or an SAT score of 800 or better.
Must have taken at least two high school subjects in business or computer science.
Must attend Southern University A & M in Baton Rouge.
Must major in business education or computer sciences.
Must submit a high school transcript, including the third nine weeks grading period of their senior year.
Must submit an essay of 200 words or more stating why he or she should receive the scholarship and why they wish to attend Southern University A&M in Baton Rouge.
Must be an active member of his/her church and in the community.
Must submit three letters of recommendation: one from the principal of their high school, one from the pastor of their church and one letter from a community leader.
The winner will be awarded the scholarship by the principal of his/her high school.
