Port Commission Oks job bids

LAPLACE – The South Louisiana Port Commission, after seeking more bidders on three Globalplex construction jobs, awarded the contracts at a special meeting Thursday.

Executive Director Joseph Accardo said D&O Construction Co. of New Orleanswas the lower of two bidders to relocate water lines at Globalplex. Thatcompany bid $33,621.

At the March 4 meeting, Bruce Carmichael of River Consulting advised the port commission of a $64,648 opinion of probable cost for a change order for waterline routing at Globalplex.

St. Charles Parish commissioner Jay Roberts urged delaying approval of thecontract and added it was his opinion that of the three bidders, none had experience in laying water lines.

D&O Construction of New Orleans landed the job instead with a $33,621 bid, selected by Accardo from two bidders.

In other contracts, Four Seasons Environmental Co. of Port Allen was thelowest of three bidders on the Globalplex wastewater pond rehabilitation project, bidding $36,703.

Hi-Tech Electrical of New Orleans was the lower of two bidders to relocate electric poles at Globalplex, with a $31,161 bid.

The contracts were brought into question by St. Charles Parishcommissioners Jay Roberts and Joey Murray at recent meetings. Theyquestioned the qualifications of earlier bidders and the prices submitted.
