Bergeron second at AJGA tourney

KINGWOOD, Texas – Brett Bergeron of LaPlace placed second at the AJGA Preseason Junior at Kingwood at Kingwood Country Club’s Marsh Course last weekend.

Bergeron shot a 5-over-par 149 over the two-day event to tie Sean Szerencsits of Coplay, Pa. for second. The two finished one shot behind GregDavis of Cooper, Texas, who overcame a stretch of four consecutive bogeys on holes 14-17 to lead wire to wire and gain his first national victory.

Bergeron opened the tournament Saturday with a 3-over 75, shooting a 36 on the front nine and a 39 on the back to place fourth. He came back with a2-over 74 on Sunday, the day’s best round.

Douglas opened the tournament with a 2-under 70, the best round of the tournament, before shooting a 6-over 78 on Sunday. Szerencsits had a 1-under 71 on Saturday and also had a 78 on Sunday.

The 36-hole American Junior Golf Association Preseason event is aimed at players who have tried, but have been unsuccessful, in gaining entry into an AJGA tournament in the past. The event is designed to give more juniorsopportunities at the national level and exposure for college golf scholarships.

The top 15 finishers earn exemptions into AJGA tournaments throughout the year.
