I think it would be safe to say the nation as a whole was shocked as we heard about the 6-year-old boy in Michigan who shot his classmate. It was saidthese two children had gotten into an argument and the boy got fed up so he brought a gun to school. After shooting the girl, he went into the bathroomto throw away the gun.
As with all school shooting stories the gun control issues arose once again and we heard half-witted speculations from politicians. They say gun controllaws would help this epidemic, but the gun this small boy used was said to be one stolen by his uncle. No new law would have prevented this.At 6 years old a boy should be shooting marbles, not a gun. At 6 years oldchildren should run to their teachers with problems, not to their houses for weapons. At 6 years old this child should have been playing hide-and-seekinstead of trying to hide the gun.
Children are not born with tendencies to kill; they have to learn this behavior somewhere. I believe children learn there is no true value in life from abortionon demand. I believe children learn that fighting is all right to solve problemsfrom television. I believe that children think lying is all right if you can talkyour way out of it by some leaders and politicians. And I think children thinknothing can be done and there is no hope for tomorrow from each person who refuses to stand up for what is right and dare to be different.
The problem lies within each of us. I know it is hard to stand forrighteousness in a world that is so corrupt. Some people even refuse to saythere is a problem. But until you stand up and use your voice to be one ofrighteousness and hope, children will grow up thinking that everything really is OK the way it is.
