At the dinner table this past Sunday we had a “family discussion” about the upcoming long weekend. Usually our family discussions involve my mom and daddominating the conversation and us having to listen to their great ideas. They hadan idea that we should get away as a family for four or five days to relax.
My idea was that we could stay home and relax and save a lot more money, too. I’msure that my dad will probably get nervous with all of us no matter where we spent the holiday. Besides that, traveling means hours of quality time bonding with myparents and my sisters while driving to our vacation getaway in “the library.” Thelibrary is what we call whatever vehicle my dad is driving since he doesn’t like any talking while he is driving.
Excuse me, but I would probably like to visit the dentist office rather than travel with my family – no offense Ms. Valerie or Dr. Miano.Speaking of the dentist office, I visited the dentist this past Wednesday. This isone of my most hated places. I don’t like the smell or any of the tools, and I gagsometimes when they reach back far in my mouth. My dentist and his assistanthave to be the best, though. Every time I go there they show patience and diligencein working with me. I’m thankful for them. While we are talking about people we are thankful for, this past Sunday my mom made gumbo. It was good, but nobody can ever make gumbo (or cook) as good asmy Maw-Maw Michel and Mrs. Jill Eichorn. Thanksgiving shouldn’t be one time a year;we should be grateful for the people around us all the time.
And, about my family, I’m very thankful we all get along, and I know we’ll have fun no matter how we spend this weekend.
Thank someone today. Better yet, thank a few people. If you have any questions or comments, write to me at straightkids@juno.com or P.O. Box 1493, LaPlace, LA 70069.Back to Top
