Have you ever been offended by someone? Sure, we all have.

It seems like I witness or hear about someone being offended on a daily basis.

The funny thing is that we seem to believe that when someone offends us we have the right to harbor bitterness toward that person. We hold on to ouroffense and very seldom do we forgive.

Proverbs 19:11 says, “A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is his glory to overlook an offense.”To overlook literally means to fail to notice something purposely. How often dowe do that? Most of the time when we’re offended, we pick the situation apart piece by piece. We replay everything that happened over and over again. Then, of course,we have to tell other people the horrible injustice that was done to us.

Yet, God tells us to overlook our offense. Why shouldn’t we be able to mull overthe situation for a little while? He says not to because in holding on to our offense, we’re feeding our flesh.

Our flesh is what tries to keep us from God. It is our sinful desires andtendencies. So, when offense comes, and let’s face it, we know it will, remember, it is your glory to overlook it. It may not be your glory in the world’seyes. But as far as God is concerned, you deserve the highest praise in doing so.Let yourself be encouraged by the truth of God’s word today.
