Rams, Rebels, Bulldogs come away with victories

TERREBONNE – Carl Gauthier threw for 196 yards and three touchdowns as West St. John prepared for District 9-2A play with a 30-22 victory at H.L.Bourgeois Friday night.

West St. John improved to 3-0 on the season while Bourgeois fell to 1-2.Gauthier completed 15 of his 23 passes. Brian Lumar caught three of themfor 85 yards and two touchdowns. Marlon Jackson had three catches for 46yards. Donriel Louis, seeing his first action of the 1999 season, had threecatches for 39 yards.

Amone Lumar led the rushing attack with 12 carries for 50 yards. DevinHerbert added six attempts for 28 yards. Bourgeois had 207 yards, most ofwhich came in the fourth quarter against the West St. John reserves. West St. John jumped out on top in the first quarter as Gauthier hit BrianLumar with a 15-yard scoring pass. Amone Lumar added the 2-pointconversion on a pass from Gauthier.

The Rams increased their lead to 16-0 in the second quarter on a 34-yard punt return by Jeremy Lumar and a 2-point pass from Gauthier to Brian Lumar. Before the half was over, the Rams would make it 22-0 on a 54-yard pass from Gauthier to Brian Lumar.

Paul Boudoin closed out the scoring for the Rams in the fourth quarter by recovering a fumble in the end zone. Amone Lumar ran in for the 2-pointconversion to make it 30-0.

Chris Barrow got the Braves on the scoreboard with a 27-yard run and added the 2-point conversion. Barrow then took a 20-yard pass from ChrisJones in for a score. Jones added the 2-point conversion on a run. A 46-yard pass from Jones to Broderick Collins concluded the scoring.

Riverside 44, Vandebilt 17

HOUMA – Britt Waguespack and Damian Melancon each ran for 92 yards to lead Riverside to a 44-17 victory at Vandebilt Catholic Friday night.

Melancon also completed 9 of his 13 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Gary Entremont caught eight passes for 92 yards. Drew Himel led Vandebilt (0-3) with 71 yards on 17 carries. JonathanPoche completed 5-of-15 passes for 70 yards. The Rebel defense held theTerriers to 129 total yards, 46 on the ground.

Vandebilt Catholic got on the scoreboard first, taking the opening kickoff and going to the Riverside 1 where Jeff Rau kicked an 18-yard field goal.

Riverside (3-0) came back with a 12-play drive on its first possession, capped by a 11-yard pass from Melancon to Entremont. The Rebels thenfaked the point after with Entremont running it in to make it 8-3.

Vandebilt Catholic quickly answered as Himel took the ensuing kickoff back 90 yards for the score. Rau then passed to John Helm for the 2-pointconversion.

Riverside came back to make it 15-11 in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Brandon Delaneuville. Melancon then passed 63 yards to Waguespackto build the lead to 22-11 at the half.

Riverside turned the ball over at its 29 early in the second half and Vandebilt capitalized as Poche passed six yards to Brad Cheramie to make it 22-17 after the try for 2 failed.

But Riverside came right back with a 6-yard pass from Melancon to Entremont. Melancon then ran in for 2 to build the lead back to 30-17 atthe end of the third quarter.

Riverside added two scores in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard run by Waguespack and a 13-yard run by Delaneuville.

Lutcher 28, Capitol 6

BATON ROUGE – Lutcher remained undefeated with a 28-6 victory at Capitol Friday night.

Damian Ursin ran 16 times for 102 yards and a score for the Bulldogs.

Jerron Wishom added eight attempts for 82 yards. Kenneth Johnson caughtthree passes for 107 yards and two scores. Thomas Ricks completed 7-of-16 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs rolled up 326 yards in total offense.

Lutcher got on the scoreboard with 10:22 left in the first on a 17-yard pass from Ricks to Johnson. The Bulldogs built the lead to 14-0 rightbefore the half on a 71-yard pass from Ricks to Johnson.

Capitol got on the scoreboard with 10:56 left in the game on a 75-yard fumble return by Kahhile Crympton. Lutcher would get that score backwith 3:21 left as Ursin scored from 35 yards out. A 4-yard run by Rickswith 27 seconds remaining concluded the scoring.
