Riverside dominates Comets to open season

LAPLACE – Riverside fullback Casey Remondet and running back Brandon Delaneuville dominated the evening Friady as they helped the Rebels to a 46-7 defeat of St. Charles Catholic.Remondet put on an amazing demonstration of running, as he crashed through the Comets’ defensive line time after time.
At the half, Remondet had carried the ball 18 times for a total of 139 yards, and three touchdowns while Delaneuville carried 9 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns. Total offensive yardage by the Rebels was 416as compared to only 143 by St. Charles Catholic.In the first quarter, the Rebels ran the ball up the field 60 yards with Remondet doing most of the running and scoring the first touchdown.
During the kickoff, the Comets fumbled and Blake Torres of the Rebels recovered on the Comets’ 20 yard line. On the very next play, Delaneuvillethrew the ball to Remondet who ran it for 50 yards for his second touchdown.
St. Charles got the ball back on their 27-yard line and managed to getdown the field to the Rebels’ 13-yard line, but were unable to get into the end zone and were forced to turn the ball over to the Rebels.
Riverside started the next drive on their own 10-yard line and again with the help of Remondet’s running were able to take the ball to the Comets’ 10-yard line just at the end of the first quarter. In the first play of thesecond quarter, Delaneuville ran 5 yards for his first touchdown of the night.
The Comets took over on their own 20, but were unable to make any headway against an impressive Rebel defensive line. Comet quarterbackNick Monica was sacked by defensive lineman Jason Hayes and St. CharlesCatholic was forced to punt.
After three plays Rebel quarterback Mike Schoen was intercepted by linebacker John Mitchell who ran it back to the Rebels’ goal line. Twoplays later, fullback Todd Babin ran it in for the Comets’ one and only score of the night.
When Riverside got the ball back on their own 19, Remondet began an remarkable series in which he ran 72 yards in 11 carries and for the last time in the game. During this series of downs he was only stopped once fora minus 5 yards by defensive back Kurt Biven.
St. Charles got the ball back, but time ran out in the second quarter andthe teams went to the locker rooms with a halftime score of 26-7 At the start of the second half, Monica began taking to the air to try and overcome the 19-point deficit. But the strategy didn’t work when Monicaonly connected once in four passes with only a completion of eight yards.
The Comets were forced to turn over the ball to the Rebels.
After several running plays, Schoen managed to connect with wide receiver Gary Entremont for 36 yards and a score.
After a busted series of plays, St. Charles Catholic punted the ball awayand the Rebels began another march downfield from their 48-yard line that ended with Delaneuville making a 20-yard touchdown run.
Riverside and St. Charles traded the ball several times during the thirdand fourth quarters, with no scoring until the final minutes of the game when running back Seth Johnson ran 20 yards for the final score of the game.
