WSJ grad Saul receives Mervyn’s/WSF scholarship

WALLACE – The Women’s Sports Foundation and Mervyn’s California teamed up recently to grant West St. John graduate Reshonn Saul a $1,000scholarship.
The Mervyn’s California/ Women’s Sports Foundation $303,000 Scholarship Fund was sponsored by Mervyn’s California to support and encourage young women who have shown excellence in sports and academics to pursue their goals through higher education.
Saul was one of 282 scholarship winners who were selected for this program which is administered by the Women’s Sports Foundation.
“The Women’s Sports Foundation is honored to be part of this program,” Nancy Lieberman-Cline, president of the Women’s Sports Foundation, said.
“Keeping alive the athletic dreams of young women is at the core of the Foundation’s philosophy. I would also like to thank Mervyn’s california forproviding this opportunity.” Saul graduated in the top percentile of her class this past May. She hasreceived a full five-year scholarship to Mississippi Valley State in softball and will be pursuing a degree in sports/physical therapy.
During her tenure at West St. John, Saul was active in softball, volleyball,Concert and Marching Band, Beta Club, F.B.L.A., S.A.D.D., P.A.S.S.E.D., TalentSearch, 4-H, C.O.E. and Gospel Choir. Saul also participated in Grambling State University’s High Ability program and was listed in the 1998-99 Who’s Who in High School Students.
She is currently employed at Nalco Chemical Company as a C.O.E. worker inthe production department.
Saul is the daughter of Donald and Emelda G. Saul and is the sister ofDramar Saul who is currently playing football at MVSU. Saul is a memberof the Greater Woodville Baptist Church of Wallace, where she sings in the Mass and Youth and Young Adult Choir. She enjoys singing gospel and goesto various churches in the community using her voice in praises to the Lord.
“I am pleased that the Mervyn’s California Women’s Sports Foundation, in which Jackie Joyner-Kersee is a member, saw so much in my talents and academic abilities to award this scholarship to me,” Saul said in response to receiving the award.
“I will do my best to prove them worthy of this honor. My hard work anddedication I owe first to God and my parents who have always been there for me.”Saul’s goal is to one day work for the New Orleans Saints organization in addition to pursuing a career in theater and performing arts as a singer.
