Grillot rallies late to edge Dugout Club in opener

METAIRIE – Ridgewood-based Grillot Co. opened the Second District Easttournament with a 6-4 victory over the Lutcher Dugout Club at Bonnabel High School.
Grillot (13-3) later advanced to play Superior Energy Monday night for the right to play Schaff Brothers in the championship game Tuesday.
Lutcher (7-8) fell into the loser’s bracket where it was eliminated by Schaff, 5-0, Saturday.
Both teams went down in order in the top of the first. Grillot brokethrough in the second inning as Brad Rodrigue singled up the middle and Jason Lisotta followed with a home run to left, making it 2-0.
In the bottom half of the inning, Jeremy Martin walked and Rusty Crosslin singled. Bo Louque then laid down a sacrifice bunt with both runnersscoring on an errant throw.
Lutcher loaded the bases in the third as Ben Martin was hit by a pitch, Tray Haydel walked and Damian Ursin singled to left. But Grillot was ableto turn a double to end the threat.
Grillot regained the lead as Rodrigue singled to left and Lisotta walked.
David Culotta followed with a single, scoring courtesy runner B.J. Rainesto make it 3-2.
Lutcher responded in the fifth inning. Haydel walked and went to third on adouble into the right field gap by Ursin. A squeeze play by Crosslin scoredHaydel with the tying run. Trent Bourgeois then singled to center, bringinghome Ursin to put Lutcher up 4-3.
Grillot tied the score in the sixth on singles by Rodrigue and Culotta.
In the seventh, Bryson LeBlanc walked and moved to second on a hit to shortstop by Lane Dugas. After a walk loaded the bases, LeBlanc camehome on a passed ball. Vidrine then hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Dugas tomake it 6-4.
Lutcher could not mount any offense in the bottom half of the inning.
