BATISTE VACHERIERobert Batiste Jr., 82, a native and resident of Vacherie, diedJune 29. He was the husband of the late Mary Louise Stewart Batiste andfather of Odessa Nathan, Florestine Kent, Laverne Dennis and Albert, Earl, Waren, Lionel, Peter, the Rev. Robert III, the Rev. Nathaniel and the lateRev. Herman Batiste.He was also the son of the late Robert and Florence Batiste and brother of the late Mary Brown and Nelson Batiste.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church, Vacherie, withinterment at Highway Baptist Church Cemetery, Vacherie. Visitationstarts at 9 a.m.BROWN THIBODAUXPaul Brown Sr., 85, a native of Vacherie and a resident ofThibodaux, died June 27. He was the husband of Edna Lewis Brown andfather of Maxine Sylvain, Jacqueline Scott and Roxanne, Anthony, Ronnie and Paul Brown Jr.

He was also the son of the late Ernest and Louise Becnel Brown and brother of Oneil Brown Sr. and the late Maude Phillips, Sedonia Priestlyand Stanley, Robert, Dennis and Wiltz Brown.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, Thibodaux, withinterment at Allen Chapel AME Cemetery, Thibodaux.

CHOPINSedric Chopin, 25, a resident of LaPlace, died June 26. He was the son ofRose Marie Chopin and Cedric White and the brother of Kendall, Kerry, Judy, Karen, Shannette and Lisa Chopin.

He was also the grandson of Elix and Rose White and the late Alma and Henry Chopin Sr.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Rising Star Baptist Church, LaPlace, withinterment at Providence Cemetery, LaPlace.

GAUTHREAUX METAIRIEEdward Lucas Gauthreaux, 70, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Montz for 15 years, died June 27. He was the father of Josephand Gerald Gauthreaux.

He was also the brother of Corrine Vivien, Louise Ducote, Thelma Reisinger, Gloria Driggers and Emile “Bubby” Gauthreaux.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services were held June 30 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home.

HENDERSON PAULINAJustine “Nan” Nelson Henderson, 90, a native and resident of 88 years of Mt. Airy and resident of Lutcher for two years, died June 24. Shewas the wife of 62 years of the late Lawrence Henderson Sr. and mother ofGrace Spears-Fontenot, Doris Jackson, Lois Duhe, Shirley Manuel, Allen Henderson and the late Lawrence Henderson Jr.

She was also the daughter of the late Estanio and Leana Duhe Nelson and sister of Lydia Alexis, Marcel Nelson Sr., the late Alberteen Burl, LouiseHouston and Joseph, Chester Sr. and Sidney Nelson.She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at First Community Antioch Baptist Church,Paulina, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions. Visitationstarts at 10 a.m.LABORDE MARREROIola Schexnaydre LaBorde, 66, a native of Destrehan and a resident of Marrero for 48 years, died June 29. She was the wife of Vernon”John” LaBorde and mother of Susan Flores, Kirby Gaspard and Donna Hembree.

She was also the daughter of the late Willie and Lena Montz Schexnaydre and sister of Lois Fabre, Joy Millet, Russell Schexnaydre and the late Neal Schexnaydre.

She is also survived by five step-children and six grandchildren.

Services were held July 2 at Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church, Marrero, with interment at Westlawn Memorial Park.

LANDRY PAULINALottie Millet Landry, 82, a resident of Lutcher, died July 1. Shewas the wife of the late Arthur “Dan” Landry.

She was also the sister of Elaine Roussel, the late Maude Comeaux, Leon Millet and Tech. Sgt. George Millet Jr.Services were held July 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, withinterment at the church mausoleum.

LEWIS NEW ORLEANSClarence Joseph Lewis Sr., 74, a native of Lutcher and aresident of New Orleans, died June 27. He was the husband of JosephineMcKenny and father of Brenda Gholar, Lena Brown, Ceolia Brown, Clarence Jr., Donna, Elzina and Debbie Armstrong, Nadine Martin, Andrette Fitch and Jacqueline and Linda Lewis.

He was the son of the late Lena and Issac Lewis Sr. and the brother ofDorothea Zennon and Isaac Lewis Jr. He was preceded in death by threebrothers and one sister.

He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held July 1 in the chapel of Boissier-Labat Family Funeral Home, New Orleans, with interment at Providence Memorial Park.

LUQUETTE SORRENTOLarry Joseph Luquette Jr., 56, a native of Vacherie and aresident of Sorrento, died June 28. He was the husband of Nelda TrabeauLuquette and father of Troy Sr., Brett and Russ Luquette.He was also the son of Larry Sr. and Rosemary Simon Luquette and brotherof Rosemary Bolotte, Marilyn Ourso, Wanda Millet, Barbara Simpson and Eileen and David Luquette.

He is also survived by six grandchildren.

Services were held July 1 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Sorrento, withinterment at Holy Rosary Mausoleum.

MARTINEZ DESTREHANEurilda Bergeron “Girlie” Martinez, 84, a native of Grosse Tete and a resident of Destrehan, died June 28. She was the wife of thelate Emile J. Martinez Sr. and mother of Audrey Mire and Larry Sr. andEmile Martinez Jr.

She was also the daughter of the late Louis Sr. and Mildred B. Bergeron andsister of Louis Bergeron Jr. and the late Floyd Bergeron Sr.She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were held July 1 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church,Destrehan, with interment at the church mausoleum.

METCALF LAPLACECharles B. Metcalf, 59, a native of St. Augustine, Texas, and aresident of LaPlace for 20 years, died June 29. He was the husband ofPatsy Metcalf and father of Darla Gaudet and Keith Metcalf.

He was also the son of Tommie Metcalf and the late Pearl Metcalf and brother of Nelson Metcalf and the late Claude Metcalf.

He is also survived by six grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were held July 2 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.PHILLIPS EDGARDMaude Brown Phillips, a resident of Edgard, died June 29. Shewas the wife of the late Corbert Phillips and mother of Ralph Phillips and the late Alvin Phillips Sr.

She was also the daughter of the late Earnest and Louise Becnel Brown and sister of Oneil Brown and the late Sedonia Priestly and Dennis, Wiltz, Robert, Stanley, Paul Sr. and Zenobia Brown.She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was the husband of RosaVillavaso Pierre and father of Sister Clare of Assisi, SSF, Rosalayn Singleton and Dr. Percy Pierre Jr.He was also the son of the late Adolph and Celeste Gregoire Pierre and brother of Paul Pierre, the late Alvarine Octave, Mary Simmons and Peter, Fellman, Alex, Adolph and Stanley Pierre.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

He was the husband of the late Gertie EschetteVicknair and father of Nancy Champagne and Ned Vicknair.

He was also the son of the late Otto Sr. and Amanda Webre Vicknair andbrother of Peggy Gauthreaux, Ivy LeBlanc, Hilda O’Brien, Vivian Pitre and Remi Vicknair.

He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services were held July 1 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hahnville, with interment at the church cemetery, Taft.

WEBER NORCOAugustin “Git” Weber, 78, a native of Reserve and a resident of Norco, died June 30. He was the husband of Rita Becnel Weber and father ofCarolyn DeJean, Jan Mauduit, Sil Chauvin, Stephanie Patrick and Michelle Florence.

He was also the son of the late Ernest and Noemie Vicknair Weber and brother of Sam Weber, the late Severin and Jean Weber and Noemie Weber.

He is also survived by one grandchild and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held July 2 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kenner with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.
