At my Paw Paw Keller’s annual Get High On Life banquet last week, the Rev. PatSanders talked about perseverance. My Paw Paw has persevered in reaching outto drug addicts and alcoholics for the past 18 years. The word, perseverance, has described a couple of other incidents this past week.
I had to persevere with my new contacts. I could not put them in at first, and Ihad scrapes under my eyes as a result. Then, I found out that one of the contactshad a tear in it. I went back and got a new lens. Two days later, another mishapoccurred. I lost one of them. I went back and got it replaced. A few days later, Ireturned to the eye doctor for a scheduled checkup to see if my vision was corrected with my contacts. I persevered through the week and am doing betterwith my contacts.
Another story of perseverance could be the story of Avery Johnson of the San Antonio Spurs. A native of New Orleans, he went undrafted coming out ofcollege, played in other leagues, was cut twice by the Spurs, and then was finally signed by the Spurs. Damon Stoudamire of the Portland Trailblazers saidthat any team with Avery Johnson as its point guard would not win a NBA championship. Avery Johnson and the Spurs soundly defeated Damon Stoudamireand the Trailblazers en route to the winning the NBA championship on Friday night with Johnson making the game winning shot.
I guess what I am trying to say is that no matter how bad the situation is, never give up. Persevere. If you have any questions or comments, please write to me at straightkids@juno.com or P.O. Box 1493, LaPlace, La. 70069.
