St. John captures medals at Law Enforcement Games

LAPLACE – The St. John Sheriff’s Department did quite well at theLouisiana Law Enforcement Games held earlier this month in sites around the parish.
Greg Maurin won a gold medal in the senior division of the duathlon. Maurinalso took silver medals in the masters division of the 100, 800 and 1500 meters in the track and field competition and teamed with Alan Weber Jr.
to win a silver in the men’s bowling doubles.
Weber also teamed with Melanie Stein to win a silver in the mixed doubles and captured the gold in the men’s singles. Weber also received the goldmedal for the overall high pin average. Weber went on to capture anothergold in the men’s 9-ball pool competition.
Randall Joseph took the silver in the 9-ball pool tournament while Bryon Bernard captured the bronze. Bernard also took the bronze in the 8-ballmen’s tournament.
In horseshoes, Brian Bertrand took the bronze in the singles competition.
Butch Remondet combined with Clement Gomez of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to take the gold in the doubles competition while Rick Hylander teamed up with Bobby Canedo of the New Orleans Police Department to take the bronze.
Remondet also teamed with Todd Hymel of the St. John Sheriff’sDepartment and Virginia Dandon of the NOPD to capture the bronze in the darts 701 competition.
Bertrand captured the silver in the patrol division of the K-9 competition.
Keith Brooks won the gold in the patrol division while taking the silver in the narcotics division. Brooks also took the silver in the overallcompetition.
Jaime San Andres won the gold in the open division of the discus competition while taking the silver in the shotput and the bronze in the javelin.
San Andres also captured the gold in the open division of the 275-pound class in both the bench press and deadlifting events of the powerlifting competition.
Donnie Freeman added a bronze in the open division of the 220-pound class of the bench press competition.
In the pistol shooting competition, Steve Hefler took the gold in the sharp shooter’s class of the PPC competition and added a silver in the bullseye competition.
James Nolan captured the gold medal in the marksmen class in both the PPC and the bullseye competitions. Larry LeBlanc won the gold in thesharpshooter’s class in the bullseye competition and a silver in the PPC.
Sam Moody captured silvers in the expert class in both the PPC and bullseye competitions. And Scott Naillet won a silver in the marksmenclass in the PPC and a bronze in the bullseye competition.
The Men’s No. 1 volleyball team took the gold while the No. 2 teamcaptured the bronze.
