River Parish industries honored by governorL’Observateur / April 14, 1999BATON ROUGE – Several River Parishes industries received awards from Gov. Foster in his annual Environmental Leadership awards.Pollution Prevention Achievement awards went to: DuPont Dow Elastomers, Pontchartrain Site, LaPlace, for eliminating the generation of 2.8 million pounds of hazardous waste per year by applyingprocess optimization and materials substitution.

Marathon Ashland Petroleum, Garyville, for expanding and upgrading the heavy gas oil hydrotreater to produce a gasoline that has one-fifth the limit for sulfur content, cutting national sulfur dioxide emissions by 2.1million pounds per year.
Monsanto Company, Luling, for substantial reduction in waste reduction and resource consumption by installing a new generation glyphosate manufacturing process.
An Outstanding Community Outreach Achievement award went to Shell Norco for establishment of the River Road Museum.
St. Charles and St. John the Baptist parishes were also recognized fortheir joint household hazardous material collection day activities, which involved 11 major industries in the two parishes.
Those industries included Monsanto, DuPont Dow Elastomers, Marathon Ashland Petroleum, DuPont, OxyChem, Stockhausen, Montell Polyolefins, Union Carbide, Shell Norco, Motiva and Nalco.
