BANKS LUTCHER – Alice Gaines “Big Mama” Banks, 75, a native of Smoke Bend and a resident of Lutcher, died Feb. 18. She was the wife of the late LeroyBanks Sr. and mother of Maurleen Florent and Cassie Ann, Walter andWilson Gaines.

She was also the daughter of the late Samuel and Lottie Hollins Gaines and sister of the late Florida Watson and Irma and Leroy Gaines.

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 26 at King Solomon Baptist Church, Lutcher, withinterment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina.

BARTLEY ST. JAMES – Mildred Fobbs Bartley, 93, a native of St. James and a residentof New Orleans for 75 years, died Feb. 20. She was the wife of the lateJunius Bartley.

She was also the daughter of the late John and Puliska Comminie Fobbs and sister of Puliska Bazile and the late Hazel Johnson and Martine, Herbert, Sheldon, Caesar and Alse Fobb.

Services were held Feb. 25 at St. Luke Baptist Church, St. James, withinterment at the church cemetery.

CUSHING HARVEY – Gloria “Marie” Hoover Laurencis Cushing, 75, a native of Romeville and a resident of Metairie for 40 years, died Feb. 23. She wasthe wife by first marriage of the late John Laurenceis Sr. and by secondmarriage of the late Ray Cushing, and mother of John Jr. and CharlesLaurenceis.

She was also the sister of Melba Young, Odette Blouin and Alton and Lloyd Hoover.

She is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Harvey,with interment at Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna. Visitation starts at 9a.m.

DUFRESNE NEW ORLEANS – Florence Matherne Dufresne, 78, a native of St. James anda resident of Metairie, died Feb. 23. She was the wife of the late Albert M.Dufresne and mother of Mary Meyn and the late William Dufresne.

She was also the daughter of the late Andre and Ruth Hymel Matherne and sister of Bessie Waguespack, Lois Matherne and the late Loretta Kramer, Hazel Gautreaux and Andrew Matherne.

She is also survived by one grandchild.

Services were held Feb. 26 in the chapel of All Faiths Funeral Home withinterment at Garden of Memories, Metairie.

FALCON LUTCHER – Sarah Galafaro Falco, 76, a native of Tickfaw, former resident of Jefferson Parish for 42 years and resident of Lutcher for three years, died Feb. 23. She was the wife of Neil Falcon Sr. and mother of Neil FalconJr.

She is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 26 in the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home,Lutcher, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie.

JACOB HAUGHTON – Murphy Joseph Jacob, 68, a native of Reserve and a resident of Bossier City, died Feb. 22. He was the husband of 48 years of Mary E.Jacob and father of Loretta Curtis and Lynnette, Murphy Jr., Mark andMichael Jacob.

He was also the son of the late Wilson and Nellie Louque Jacob and brother of Marjorie Ordeneaux and Terry Jacob.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Jacob was a Korean and Vietnam veteran and served 28 years in the U.S.Air Force. He was also employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years,from which he retired.

Services were held Feb. 26 in the chapel of Hill Crest Funeral Home,Haughton, with interment at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearerswere members of the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

JOSEPH MT. AIRY – Alfretta “Mama Ret” Traville Joseph, 96, a native and residentof Mt. Airy, died Feb. 18. She was the wife of the late Henry Joseph Sr. andmother of Audrey Bourgeois, Vivian Braxton, Russell and Henry Joseph Jr.,and the late Virgie Joseph, Leona Alexis, Alton Joseph, Marjorie Knight and Aldonia Thymes.

She was also the daughter of the late Bernard and Addie Traville.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, withinterment at Golden Wreath Cemetery, Lutcher. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

NASH HARVEY – Victory Landry Nash, 80, a native of Garyville and a resident of Gretna for 43 years, died Feb. 24. She was the wife of Leo Q. Nash Sr. andmother of the late Leo Nash Jr.

She was also the daughter of the late Waldermore and Lucille Donaldson Landry and sister of Jewel Alleman, Houston Landry and the late Ruby Marano and Walderman and Earl Landry.

She is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 26 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Harvey,with interment at Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna.

NOBILE GRAMERCY – Dr. Anthony J. Nobile, 93, a native of Lutcher and a resident ofGramercy, died Feb. 25. He was the husband of Hester Belanger Nobile andfather of Donna Derks, Anthony J. “Buzzy” and Hugh Nobile.He was also the brother of Marguerite Himel and the late Angelina Duhe, Johnny and Annie Nobile.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was St. James Parish coroner for 40 years, a charter member of theLutcher-Gramercy Lions Club and also a member of Knights of Columbus and the AOA Medical Honor Society.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gramercy,with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.
