Lady Rebels blank Chapelle

RESERVE – Kelly Louque hit a two-run home run and Tanya Teague pitched one-hit ball for six innings as Riverside took a 10-0 non-district victory over Archbishop Chapelle Thurs-day afternoon.

Riverside improved to 4-1 with the victory.

Teague struck out six of the first seven batters she faced, allowing only a two-out walk to Ashley Mehrtens in the top of the first.

Riverside threatened in the bottom of the first as Amie Graugnard drove a shot toward the left field corner. Left fielder Colleen Zimmerman racedover to make a one-handed running catch near the foul line for the out.

Courtney St. Amant singled to left but Chapelle starter Jamie Cisco gotKatie Brady and Teague to pop up to end the inning.

Riverside broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. NicoleLambert led off the inning by walking on a full count. Louque then took aone-ball, one-strike pitch from Cisco and launched it over the left field fence, giving the Lady Rebels a 2-0 lead.

Heidi Richard and Cassie St. Amant followed with walks and AshleyBourgeois singled to left to load the bases. Graugnard followed withanother walk to force in Richard to make it 3-0.

Tiffany Cloninger became the first Chapelle batter to make contact against Teague, grounding out to Graugnard at third to open the third inning. Teague would come back to strike out Jenny Faught and getZimmerman to ground out to short to end the inning.

Riverside added a run in the bottom of the inning. Brady and Teague openedthe inning with singles to left. After Lambert walked to load the bases,Louque lined out sharply to third and Richard forced courtesy runner Jessica Watts with a grounder to third. Cassie St. Amant then walked toforce in courtesy runner Summer Delaneuville to make it 4-0.

After Teague retired the side in order in the top of the fourth, the Lady Rebels broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Cisco walked Graugnard and Courtney St. Amant to open the inning and wasreplaced by Marion Peta. Peta then walked Brady, Teague and Lambert toforce in Graugnard and St. Amant before Cisco came back from shortstopto pitch.

Louque drove in St. Amant for her third run batted in of the game with afly ball to left that Zimmerman caught charging in. After Richard flew outto right and St. Amant walked, Bourgeois popped a single over third toscore Delaneuville and Lambert to give the Lady Rebels a 9-0 lead.

Gia Mehrtens got Chapelle’s first hit of the game to lead off the fifth, lining a shot to the shortstop side of the second base bag. After Teaguestruck out Cisco, Brittany Steibing hit a shot over second base. Richardfielded the ball, tagged the base and threw to first to complete the double play.

After Teague retired the side in order again in the top of the sixth, the Lady Rebels ended the game with a run in the bottom of the frame. VanessaTaromina led off with a single into the right-center field gap and went to second as Richard walked. Cassie St. Amant then lined a single to center,scoring Taromina to make it 10-0.

Teague had 12 strikeouts, walking one, in improving to 4-1 on the season.

Cisco took the loss for Chapelle.

Riverside is playing at the St. John Tournament this weekend beforehosting Archbishop Hannan Tuesday afternoon.
