BASSIL NEW ORLEANS – Nicholas Bassil, 76, a native of New Orleans and resident of Destrehan for three years, died Jan. 19. He was the husband of KathrynCastrinos Bassil and father of Antonia “Toni” Jennings, Helen Reaux and Demitri Bassil.

He was also the brother of Chris, Evangelia, Malachais and the late John Bassil.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 20 at The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the HolyTrinity, New Orleans, with interment at St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery.BECKETT LUTCHER – August Beckett, 53, a native and resident of Lutcher, died Jan.

18. He was the son of the late Wilmer and Bernice Beckett and brother ofEdward Givens, Audrey Duhone, Annie, Alice and Betsy Beckett.

Services were held Jan. 22 at King Solomon Baptist Church, Lutcher, withinterment at Antioch Cemetery, Paulina.

CHAUVIN VACHERIE – Robert Joseph “Harry” Chauvin Jr., 33, a native of Lockportand resident of Vacherie, died Jan. 21. He was the son of Alcide Jr. andLois Dupre Tregre and brother of Jolen and Vincent Tregre and the late Duane Chauvin.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church,Vacherie, with interment at Holy Savior Cemetery, Lockport. Visitationstarts at 8 a.m.DILLON NORCO – Rosemary Combel Dillon, a resident of Destrehan, died Jan. 17.She was the wife of the late Sidney “Jack” Dillon, mother of Marie Lemoine and step-mother of Lyn Schroeder, Deanie Baroni and Sidney and Edward Dillon.

She was also the daughter of the late George and Ada Combel and sister of Evelyn Daniels, Jackie Franklin, George Combel and the late Peter Combel.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 20 in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home,Norco, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans.

GAUDET NEW ORLEANS – Lydia A. Gaudet, a native of Paulina and resident of NewOrleans for many years, died Jan. 19. She was the daughter of the lateGaston and Lydia Guglielmo Gaudet and sister of Gertrude Elliott, Mae Burch, Gaston Gaudet and the late Adela Lemaitre.

Services were held Jan. 22 in the chapel of Bultman Funeral Home, NewOrleans, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina.HONOR BOUTTE – Irma Y. Honor, 52, a native and resident of Des Allemands, diedJan. 18. She was the mother of Tyler and Danielle Honor.She was also the daughter of the late Carrie Harper and Arthur Williams Sr. and sister of Arthur and Mercedes Williams.She is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 22 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Boutte, withinterment at Shell Mound Cemetery, Des Allemands.

HOWARD EDGARD – James Howard, 55, a native and resident of Wallace, died Jan.

18. He was the husband of Beatrice Lumar Howard, father of Trina Howard,Roxanne and Russell Lumar, and step-father of Leo Lumar.

He was also the son of the late Philip and Charlotte “Eva” Poche Howard and brother of Leontine Narcisse, Lawrence and Laura Howard, and the late John, Junius and Arthur Howard, Earnestine Haydell and Wilberine Lewis.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 22 at Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church,Edgard, with interment at Young Cemetery, Edgard.

ISAAC KILLONA – Aleada N. Isaac, 72, a native and resident of Killona, died Jan.19. She was the wife of the Rev. Joseph Isaac Sr. and mother of BeatriceVining, Thelma Cook, Mary Washington, Jacqulyn Richard, Valerie Evergin, Patricia Turley, Othelia, the Rev. Joseph Jr., Jerry and Robert Isaac.She was also the daughter of the late Joseph Sr. and Harriet TaylorNarcise and sister of Ulysses, Calvin and Nathaniel Narcise and preceded in death by two brothers, six sisters and one daughter.

She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, Killona, withinterment at Greenhill Cemetery, Taft.

LIONS LAPLACE – David Lions, 48, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Jan. 20.He was the husband of Marlene Sutton Lions and by first marriage of the late Sharon D. Lions, and father of Brande Reyer and Dave and AmandaLions.

He was also the son of Louis Lions Jr. and the late Louise Adam andbrother of Guy Lions and the late Robert Lions.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace,with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace. Visitation starts at8 a.m.MITCHELL MARRERO – Horace Mitchell Sr., 77, a native of Vacherie and resident ofBridge City, died Jan. 16. He was the father of Sherrlynn Mundy and HoraceJr., Edward, John, Sylvester, Bryan, Betty and Kirk Mitchell. He was also the son of the late Edward and Amelia Coleman Mitchell and brother of Walter “Pops” Mitchell.

He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Davis Mortuary, Marrero,with interment at Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale. Visitation starts at 8:30a.m.PAQUETTE METAIRIE – Richard Charles Paquette, 44, a native of New Orleans, former resident of St. Rose and resident of Metairie, died Jan. 19. He was thehusband of the late Denise Paquette and father of Kelli, Paige and Christian Paquette.

He was also the son of Naomi McCloskey Paquette and the late John Paquette and brother of Naomi Cook and the late John Paquette Jr.

Services will be held Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church,Vicksburg, Miss., with interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation willbe held Jan. 24 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, from 2to 4 p.m.TEMPLET RESERVE – Gary J. Templet, 57, a native and resident of Reserve, died Jan.18. He was the son of the late George and Therese Jacob Templet andbrother of Dianna Delatte, Lloyd Templet and the late Rosalie and Walter Templet.

Services were held Jan. 21 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, withinterment at the church cemetery.

THOMAS EDGARD – Bennie Thomas, 68, died Jan. 18. He was the husband ofGeraldine Duronslet Thomas and father of Emile and Rogers Washington, Rose Smith, Crystal Gross, Sandra Harris, Darlene Willoughby, Marilyn Edwards, Bertha Evans, Nadine Gauthier and Aline Johnson.

He was also the son of the late Benjamin and Marguerite Thomas and brother of the late August Thomas and Marguerite Jones.

He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 22 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard,with interment at the church cemetery.

VOIRON NORCO – Gladys Durr Voiron, 67, a native of Jefferson Parish and resident of LaPlace, died Jan. 16. She was the wife of the late Joseph Voiron Sr.and mother of Joseph Jr., William, Albert and David Voiron.She was also the sister of Vera and Marguerite Roberts, Hilda Accardo, Anna Sayarese and Rex and Henry Durr.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 22 in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home,Norco, with interment at Carrollton Cemetery, New Orleans.

WHITE BRIDGE CITY – Mary Jones White, 74, a native of Taft and resident of Bridge City, died Jan. 20. She was the wife of the late Nathaniel White Sr.and mother of Aguella Simmons, Sylvia Washington, Nathanlie Shargois, Nathaniel Jr., Leonard and Tyrone White.She was also the daughter of the late William Jones and Valentine Lewis.

She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 22 at Third Emanuel Baptist Church, Bridge City,with interment at Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale.
