Ballet’s spring performance near

DESTREHAN – The River Region Ballet is busy rehearsing for its first spring performance.
Two very diverse ballets will be presented. The first ballet is scheduledfor the April performance in Act II from “La Bayadere, Kingdom of the Shades.” This famous “white act” has been used to epitomize classicalballet. The second offering is an original ballet conceived andchoreographed by artistic director, Susan Ferrara. “The Fairy Garden,”with music by Khachaturian, is inspired by the poems and water colorings of Mary Cicely Barker.
The casts of both ballets consist of local dancers who attended open auditions. Soloists are Alexis Captain, Sarah Comiskey, Kelly Mannear andAmber Roussel. Performing in the corps de ballet are Jamie Boutte, JulieBurke, Alisha Captain, Anne Comiskey, Taylor Eilers, Carolyn Fulton, Leah Langan, Jeanette Meleen, Kate Meleen, Heidi Schindler, Christy Sincavage and Christine St. Germain.Youth dancers appearing in “The Fairy Garden” are Taryn Eilers, Kaitlin Jacobi and Nicole Langlinais. Children’s roles are being danced by GabrielleBicker, Mary Comiskey, Ashley Ericksen, Courtney Harrison, Aja Hite and Patricia Lehmann. The roles of Nikiya and Solor in “La Bayadere” will bedanced by professional guest artists to be announced pending completion of contract negotiations.
The River Region Ballet’s spring performances will be Saturday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 5 at 2 p.m. at Destrehan Auditorium. Ticketsare $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12 and may be purchased by calling 764-1969. Ticket order forms are also available at Images DanceStudio, 105-A River Point Drive in Destrehan.
